Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas had been on my radar for quite some time, and while I’d heard great things about it, my reading experience didn’t quite match the hype.

The story follows Feyre, a young woman who is taken to the magical lands of the Fae after killing a wolf that was actually a faerie in disguise. While the premise was intriguing, it took far too long for the plot to pick up. I found myself struggling to stay engaged, and honestly, it took me over a year to finish. There were moments where I just couldn't keep the momentum going, and the pacing felt sluggish, especially in the middle of the book. I found Feyre quite unlikable for the majority of the book and there was so much to learn about the world that I found myself lost at times, not understanding what was going on.

However, despite the slow start, the ending completely turned things around for me. The final twists and revelations were so well done that it made the entire journey worthwhile. It was the point where I finally felt the stakes were real, and it made me want to continue the series. If you can push through the slower sections, the payoff at the end is absolutely worth it.

Overall, A Court of Thorns and Roses is a story that has potential but is marred by pacing issues. The ending is a game-changer, but it took too long for me to get there. Despite my mixed feelings, I’m still curious to see how the next book unfolds.
